The Case Method in Interdisciplinary Research: Writing, Teaching and Evaluating Cases

A Three-Day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “The Case Method in Interdisciplinary Research: Writing, Teaching and Evaluating Cases” was organized at the FISAT Conference Hall from June 29 to July 1, 2025. The program aimed to strengthen faculty expertise in case-based pedagogy, widely recognized as a cornerstone of management education and interdisciplinary teaching.

The sessions were led by Dr. Simon George, Professor of Practice at TAPMI and former Dean of TAPMI with over 30 years of academic experience. Trained at Harvard Business School, Dr. George is a distinguished scholar in case methodology, with numerous publications including “Cases on Brand Management and Services Marketing”. He has conducted executive training for leading organizations such as Infosys, ICICI, ISRO, Oracle, and SAIL, and has played a pivotal role in AICTE’s Quality Improvement Programme.

The FDP focused on equipping faculty with the skills to:

1. Understand the importance of processes and standards in B-schools.

2. Set individual faculty goals aligned with institutional objectives.

3. Explore different pedagogies of teaching and learning.

4. Enhance problem-solving ability in management students.

5. Diagnose and solve problems through the case method.

6. Master techniques of teaching through case discussions.

7. Learn the structure, identification, and writing of cases.

The program provided participants with hands-on insights into case writing and teaching, emphasizing its role in fostering problem-solving skills among students. It also highlighted the importance of case-based pedagogy in enhancing institutional quality and meeting accreditation standards such as NAAC, NBA, AACSB, and ARIA.
